SUPER SIMPLE TOXIN FREE SKINCARE ROUTINE

I have always suffered with hormonal breakouts and sensitive skin that can become dry if I use the wrong kinds of products. I have been guilty like most women I know of spending an awful lot of money on products to give me the “miracle fix” I’m looking for. Dewy, glowing skin is what I’m after. But these expensive products never gave me the results I wanted. I ended up with a bathroom cupboard full of useless, toxic products that did more bad for my skin then good.

Most of the chemicals in standard face washes actually strip our skin of vital oils so our bodies work hard to replace them. In doing this the chemical imbalances cause breakouts and patches of dryness. I was sick of having crappy skin and my bank balance hated me because of my experiments with the latest beauty products.

After lots of research and making the decision to live a toxin free lifestyle I have found my perfect routine.

This routine is super quick which is a requirement for me as a busy mum. It’s really cheap and only uses 3 natural, organic products.
Organic Virgin Coconut Oil:

I don’t use special coconut oil on my face, I just scoop some out of the same jar in the kitchen that we use for cooking. Coconut oil is really good for your skin. It reduces inflammation, keeps skin moisturised and helps heal wounds. The medium-chain fatty acids found in coconut oil also possess antimicrobial properties that can help treat acne and protect the skin from harmful bacteria. Winning all round.
Rosewater:

My granddad used to have a beautiful rose garden and I used to love the smell of the roses in bloom. I have fond childhood memories of making magic perfume with the petals by soaking them in water. The smell of rosewater has lovely nostalgic feels for me. It also has magic properties for your skin. It’s anti-inflammatory properties can help to reduce the redness of irritated skin, get rid of acne, dermatitis and eczema. It is a great cleanser and aids in removing oil and dirt accumulated in clogged pores.

I currently use Nature’s Aid Triple Strength Rosewater, but sadly it comes in a plastic bottle, as we’re trying to reduce our waste this isn’t ideal. I have since found this version which comes in a glass bottle with an aluminium lid.
Lavender:

Everyone knows that Lavender Essential Oil is associated with bedtime and promoting healthy sleep patterns. But did you know it also has some great skin benefits such as antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, which can help to heal skin. Research also suggests that it may be useful for treating anxiety, insomnia, depression, and restlessness.

I also really recommend investing in some reusable face pads so you no longer need cotton wool pads. I use these ones.
Morning Routine

Each morning I rub a small amount of coconut oil into the palm of my hands until it’s melted. I then rub this in a circular motion around my face. Using hand hot water on a facecloth I ‘polish’ the oil off my face then pat my face dry.

I then pour a small amount of Rosewater onto a reuseable pad and rub this around my face. It acts like a toner and makes me smell like Turkish Delight, yum!

I find that I don’t need any moisturiser as the oil is enough.
Evening Routine

Before bed I use the same wash routine. Only this time I add one drop of Lavender Essential Oil into the melted coconut oil before I wash my face. It helps me get nice and sleepy before bedtime.

So there you have it. My super quick and simple toxin-free skincare routine. It has really helped my skin and I feel better knowing I’m not putting any crappy chemicals onto my body. Someone even complimented me on how good my skin looked and how glowy I was. My inner teenage self who used to be called ‘Pizza Face’ at school was jumping up and down for joy.
